The Stables
Perched above picturesque horse stables along the Hudson River, these rooftop gardens integrate natural beauty with thoughtful, functional design. This project posed a distinct challenge: every plant in the native(ish) pollinator gardens was carefully selected to be horse-friendly, ensuring that seeds carried by birds would pose no risk to the grazing pastures below.
The vegetable garden, nestled into a recessed terrace just steps from the resident’s kitchen, is simply dreamy. To withstand the significant winds off the river, low-growing patio eggplants, dwarf varieties of tomatoes, plus lots of greens and herbs were chosen for their resilient structure without compromising productivity.
